New in the AI Suite: smarter ad placement, more video revenue
May 29, 2026
AI Contextual Ads and Smart Ad Breaks join the Brightcove AI Suite today
There are two decisions inside every video that quietly do most of the work on what it earns. Where the ad shows up, and what ad plays there.
Those decisions are also where time and money compound. Across thousands of hours of content and millions of ad calls, the gap between done well and done at scale is where margin lives.
Today, we're bringing AI to both of those decisions with two new capabilities in the Brightcove AI Suite: AI Contextual Ads and Smart Ad Breaks.
AI Contextual Ads: richer signal into the ad call
Modern ad selection is one of the more impressive pieces of software in the video stack. The ad server takes in dozens of inputs at once — who the viewer is, how often they've already been served, what's been promised to which advertiser, what each bid is worth — and resolves all of it in the time it takes a break to start. It's been quietly getting smarter for years.
AI Contextual Ads gives that decision something new to work with: scene-level context, drawn directly from the video. The capability reads each asset scene by scene and feeds the resulting signals straight into the ad call as the impression is being decided. Different scenes in the same video can pass different signals to different breaks, so a buyer bidding on a cooking show isn't just buying "cooking", they're buying the specific moment the chef plates the dish.
It runs on the IAB contextual taxonomy the programmatic market already uses, which means it slots into the buying logic on the other side without anyone needing to learn a new vocabulary. The work the ad server does stays the same. What's different is that contextual is now a serious voice in the conversation, across every scene of every video in the library.

Smart Ad Breaks: cue points the platform finds
Mid-roll placement is the kind of work where attention pays off. A break in the right spot disappears into the rhythm of the video. A break in the wrong spot reminds the viewer they're watching ads. Editorial teams have always known this, and they've been the ones doing the careful watching that gets it right.
Smart Ad Breaks gives them a head start. The platform watches the content first, finds the natural pauses, the scene transitions, the brand-safe windows where a break sits cleanly, and surfaces the strongest candidates. Editors review, accept what works, change what doesn't. The judgment stays human. What shifts is the pace: instead of marking every break from scratch, the team starts each video with a strong first draft and spends its time on the calls that need it.
Libraries that used to get a partial pass can get a full one. And because the breaks land at moments that actually fit the content, the viewer experience holds together: sessions hold their pace, breaks earn their place, and the impressions sold reach the people they were sold to.
Two moments, one smarter way to monetize
The AI Suite has spent the past year putting AI into the parts of the workflow that describe video. With AI Contextual Ads and Smart Ad Breaks, it now reaches the parts that decide what video earns: where revenue is priced, won, and watched.
Both are live in the Brightcove AI Suite today. Access is currently available to AI Suite customers, with broader availability coming in the next few weeks.
