At Brightcove, we’re continuously improving the tools that support your video workflows. Our latest release includes big improvements to our AI-powered Auto-Captions feature, to improve accessibility, boost productivity, and give you more control over your brand.
Better captions, built for your Brand
Our AI-powered Auto-Captions tool already helps over 250 Brightcove customers streamline the process of creating accurate, accessible subtitles. With this release, we’ve significantly improved baseline quality, with better punctuation, smoother flow, and more natural phrasing
We’ve also added a new Custom Dictionary feature, which offers you full control over how proper names, brand terms, acronyms, and sensitive language are handled. Custom Dictionaries eliminate transcription errors on company names, technical jargon, or industry-specific language, saving you time and ensuring consistency and quality.
How it works
You can set up a Custom Dictionary by uploading terms directly in the tool, via , a spreadsheet or CSV file, or with an API. Once added, the dictionary can be applied across your Brightcove account.
When uploading or editing a video, you’ll see a “Use dictionary” toggle in the Media and Upload modules. Toggling this option “on” will enable custom term handling—the setting should be applied on a per-video basis.
Other benefits, such as better punctuation, capitalization, and flow, are integrated into the AI transcription engine itself and will be applied in all your videos automatically for better captions with less manual editing.
Real-world impact
Enterprise teams are already using Custom Dictionaries to ensure internal jargon and product names are transcribed accurately across hundreds of training and communications videos.
Media publishers can quickly subtitle breaking content with brand-consistent terminology—ensuring compliance and accessibility without slowing down the publishing process.
As the captioning happens directly within Brightcove, there’s no need to export, edit externally, or re-import captions. Teams can review and adjust captions using the built-in editor, all in one place.
What’s next?
This update lays the foundation for broader, AI-driven captioning and translation innovations coming soon. Expect continued investment in multilingual support, editorial control, and smart automations to reduce video production overhead while raising quality. Plus, we’ll continue to evolve our captioning tools to give you more control, better quality, and less manual cleanup.
