Brightcove recently announced a collaboration with Rovi, the DivX experts. The aim of the partnership is to support and actively promote the adoption and use of the latest video compression standards in the market. As part of the collaboration, Brightcove has licensed Rovi’s DivX High-Efficiency Video Encoding (HEVC) technology. Rovi’s DivX solution is an important basis for streaming high-quality video and is considered a key driver for the delivery of high-resolution 4K content on the latest Ultra HD displays. As the successor to the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video compression format, DivX HEVC promises to double the data compression rates of previous standards. This will make it possible to provide high-quality video at low bit rates in the future. By working with Rovi, we are able to further expand our support for the MPEG format, which is already well established in the broadcast industry, while also building a bridge for the future use of high-quality video with HEVC. Brightcove plans to integrate DivX HEVC into its Zencoder cloud-based service. This integration will enable publishers to benefit from the advanced compression efficiency of the HEVC format and soon support Ultra HD and 4K content on all devices. In addition, Brightcove plans to implement a range of other formats and codecs based on the powerful MainConcept software development kits (SDKs) for professional content creators, which includes the MainConcept HEVC SDK.
