Seven Dimensions (7D) is an Australian-based company that’s redefining workplace training content. Led by psychologist and motivational speaker, Eve Ash, the company has become renowned for developing and distributing educational content with a comedic edge.

Since its inception in 1979, 7D has developed and released more than 700 videos, including video programs on leadership, interpersonal skills, health, and career development. 7D also offers video learning resources, workshops, seminars, and creative production and consulting services. The videos are targeted towards businesses, and 7D’s customer base covers all industry verticals including universities or higher education, financial institutions, and not-for profit organisations.

Situation

Video has always been the backbone of 7D’s mission, and providing a superior user experience remains critical to its long-term success. While videos were initially delivered on DVDs and as individual files stored across the company’s intranet network, 7D has since moved to online streaming for all video content in 2008.

As the population has become more mobile, video viewing on mobile devices has increased dramatically. 7D recognised that its previous video player, which was built in-house but supported by a third-party provider, was unable to provide a viewing experience that customers had come to expect. 7D deals with an international audience, so accessibility of video anytime, anywhere, and on any device was a critical requirement.

In addition, the workflow that was required to upload, transcode and stream each video was a manual process and tedious, often adding unnecessary workload to the in-house team. Added to that was the problem of not being able to add closed captioning, a feature essential for many clients.

What's next?

7D plans to achieve a better understanding of its customer base using goal-oriented analytics. Specifically, 7D will track customer viewership to understand what content is engaging customers, where it’s being viewed from and on what devices. Based on this information, 7D will be able to better plan for future content, as well as direct more targeted content to its users.

The company is now looking to leverage Brightcove’s video syndication strategy to achieve broader distribution of its video content, particularly across its social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter.
