Seven Dimensions (7D) is an Australian-based company that’s redefining workplace training content. Led by psychologist and motivational speaker, Eve Ash, the company has become renowned for developing and distributing educational content with a comedic edge.
Since its inception in 1979, 7D has developed and released more than 700 videos, including video programs on leadership, interpersonal skills, health, and career development. 7D also offers video learning resources, workshops, seminars, and creative production and consulting services. The videos are targeted towards businesses, and 7D’s customer base covers all industry verticals including universities or higher education, financial institutions, and not-for profit organisations.
Video has always been the backbone of 7D’s mission, and providing a superior user experience remains critical to its long-term success. While videos were initially delivered on DVDs and as individual files stored across the company’s intranet network, 7D has since moved to online streaming for all video content in 2008.
As the population has become more mobile, video viewing on mobile devices has increased dramatically. 7D recognised that its previous video player, which was built in-house but supported by a third-party provider, was unable to provide a viewing experience that customers had come to expect. 7D deals with an international audience, so accessibility of video anytime, anywhere, and on any device was a critical requirement.
In addition, the workflow that was required to upload, transcode and stream each video was a manual process and tedious, often adding unnecessary workload to the in-house team. Added to that was the problem of not being able to add closed captioning, a feature essential for many clients.
- Deliver consistent global user experience across devices and browsers
- Simplify backend processes, including the upload and transcoding processes, to deliver content to consumers faster
- Easily manage a large video library
7D selected Brightcove Video Cloud to simplify the complexity they faced with managing and delivering exceptional video experiences, taking into consideration the myriad of devices, browsers or operating systems being used by their customers.
“Providing a seamless, high quality experience each and every time is imperative to our business,” 7D founder, Eve Ash, explains. “If a video fails to playback, it is a deal breaker for us. And given our videos form part of overall training programs, we need to ensure every customer’s experience is perfect, so customers continue on to complete their video learning.”
“We always strive to be ahead of the pack and we knew Brightcove could help reach our goal and help us with our backend operations by managing our video library as painlessly as possible. And importantly, we were able to seamlessly add the Closed Caption files," added Ash.
With Video Cloud, 7D is also able to significantly improve the video workflow process by being able to upload, ingest, transcode, and publish their entire video library and ensuring the video playback is consistent to the user’s device and browser requirements. Video Cloud also empowered 7D to oversee all of their video content from a single hub. With hundreds of videos, varying in lengths and subject matter, 7D has now the capability to organise and refresh its entire media library, quickly and easily with Video Cloud.
Peter Robertson, Manager for Technical Operations at 7D, stated, “It’s often difficult to anticipate how many users we could have on the platform at any given time. We might have thousands of customers all viewing the same video, at the same time, anywhere in the world and we need not worry about platform congestion. Brightcove gave us the confidence that we could deliver a highly predictable user experience, at any time and every time.”
“Brightcove has transformed the way we manage and stream videos on our website. In the past we had to contend with a highly manual process, but now, with a few simple clicks, videos are loaded and streamed without much effort - a huge advantage to us where we can deliver video content to our customers quicker than ever,” says Robertson.
By partnering with Brightcove, 7D is not only able to deliver a seamless experience across all devices and platforms but also able to adapt easily to multi-bitrate streaming. It now also has a reliable platform that is scalable and robust enough to handle unpredictable traffic levels, providing peace of mind for the company.
7D plans to achieve a better understanding of its customer base using goal-oriented analytics. Specifically, 7D will track customer viewership to understand what content is engaging customers, where it’s being viewed from and on what devices. Based on this information, 7D will be able to better plan for future content, as well as direct more targeted content to its users.
The company is now looking to leverage Brightcove’s video syndication strategy to achieve broader distribution of its video content, particularly across its social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter.
