Perspectives from Thought Leaders at Brightcove PLAY 2013

We recently completed another successful Brightcove PLAY global customer conference and as we get set to publish more than 60 hours of video content from the show to our video archive at play.brightcove.com in the coming weeks, we thought it would be great to take a quick look back at some highlights as part of our Bright Ideas series.

PLAY 2013 attracted more than 600 thought leaders from a variety of industries, all with different perspectives on the importance of online video within their organization. For Rob Adams, executive producer for multi-platform video at Rogers Digital Media, video provides an important opportunity for non-traditional brands in the world of media. Rogers is focused on producing content for websites, mobile devices, live events and for its digital magazines to help expand viewership. Additionally, Rogers is investing in original content not for television, but for its magazine and radio properties.

Mike Finnerty, vice president of Web products at The Weather Company, talked in detail about how the Weather Channel is growing as a platform for weather enthusiasts with both live and local video as a key differentiator, as well as 6 new original Web series that are in the works. Mike also advised attendees to invest in all aspects of a video strategy / portfolio, rather than just in single video content types like UGC, short-form or live.

Lastly, Chris Gorell Barnes, CEO at UK interactive agency, Adjust Your Set, hit on some key themes for digital marketers, noting that talk is moving to action for marketers who are starting to take content marketing, and video’s ability to drive brand awareness and engagement, more seriously. Chris advised marketers to leverage video to tell stories, build their brand and drive sales, but also to understand both the content and the context in order to truly achieve success.
