Today, Sony BMG and Brightcove announced the launch of Musicbox Video (read the full press release). This broadband music video initiative utilizes the full suite of Brightcove Internet TV services, including video distribution through custom-branded record label and artist broadband players, video syndication to affiliate websites, and Brightcove ad sales. Musicbox will open Sony BMG's incredible library of music video content to thousands of consumer touch points, from a Musicbox Video destination website, to record label websites (e.g., Columbia, Epic), to artist websites (e.g., www.jenniferlopez.com), to fan websites, blogs and MySpace pages.
Musicbox Video is ad-supported and available free-of-charge for online viewing. The first advertisers to take advantage of this broadband video network include Hewlett Packard and DreamWorks Animation SKG in a promotional campaign for the new animated film "Over the Hedge."
A number of social features built into the Musicbox Video experience will facilitate viral promotion of artist music videos, such "Share This," which allows friends to share music video links via email. There is also a "Get Feed" feature that lets viewers subscribe to RSS feeds to get updates when new videos become available. No other online community is as enthusiastic about sharing and staying on top of the latest releases as music fans. Musicbox Video will provide fans with a rich new avenue for building online communities around their favorite artists.
