FAQ: Discontinuation of Pay Media (Beta) Functionality

What is Pay Media (Beta) and why is it being discontinued?
Pay Media is a beta feature in Brightcove that allows publishers to sell or rent Windows media video titles directly to consumers via a Brightcove player. Publishers retain 70% of the revenue with the remaining 30% going to Brightcove. Due to minimal interest and participation in Pay Media (Beta), Brightcove will discontinue the functionality on 7/31/2008.

Does the discontinuation of Pay Media (Beta) have implications for the rest of the Brightcove service?
The changes to Pay Media (Beta) have no effect on the rest of Brightcove's service. Brightcove continues to enjoy outstanding growth and success as we develop new and innovative solutions based on market needs and customer feedback.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare for the discontinuation of Pay Media (Beta)?
The deactivation of Pay Media titles will take place automatically. Pay Media titles will be disabled and simply will no longer display in your published players.

If you have lineups or players that are populated with Pay Media titles exclusively, we recommend that you remove those lineups or players from your site or affiliate sites to avoid the no title error message that would be displayed once we deactivate on 7/31/2008.

Will I be able to continue to view Pay Media reports?
Reporting for Pay Media titles will continue to be available in the console. However, Brightcove will eventually remove the Pay Media reporting (date TBD) so you may want to consider running and/or downloading a Pay Media report soon after the 7/31/2008 disable date to capture activity for your records.

Will my customers lose the content they have purchased or rented?
No. All rentals will be honored for the duration of the rental period. Purchases will continue to be viewable by customers until their rights have expired.

No sales will take place after 7/31/2008.
