SnackTV licenses its content to third-party websites that do not produce or aggregate unique video content. The company categorizes the content – such as music videos, TV programs, etc. – into separate channels, depending on the customer’s needs. SnackTV generates revenue by placing pre-roll advertising and splitting the proceeds with more than 180 publishing partners. As SnackTV considered new ways to expand its reach among a target audience of more than 52 million people (representing all Internet users in Germany), the company looked to Brightcove– its technology partner since SnackTV launched – to streamline its distribution process and provide more added-value features to its customers.

SnackTV began with a vision to combine the best in online and television content – taking pre-existing content and channeling it to websites without proprietary content streams and allowing them to monetize it.
With the Brightcove Video Cloud online video platform, SnackTV has a flexible, scalable and reliable video content distribution system that has allowed its customers to take full advantage of video assets as a revenue-generating tool. “Pre-roll advertising is central to our customers’ business goals for video content. We have even built an ad ruler that allows us to use different ad servers simultaneously,” said Christian Rymarenko, director of program and product for SnackTV. “As a content syndicator, our job is to make it easier for our customers to work with different ad sales companies and different ad servers to sell more spots. Video Cloud gives us unmatched flexibility in this area.”
Part of this flexibility comes from Video Cloud’s customization advantages. SnackTV’s customers are given the ability to personalize the Video Cloud player on individual websites with unique “skins” and controls to make the content look and feel like part of the third-party site. Unlike other video-on-demand solutions, SnackTV’s content can be customized to fit within the customer’s pages – using colors, fonts and sizes synonymous with the customer’s brand.

Embedded Players Bring Increased Views
Using the Video Cloud player, SnackTV’s customers can integrate content into their websites and stream videos seamlessly within a variety of content management system (CMS) frameworks as if it was designed for the customers’ websites.
“We don’t target larger portals that create their own content,” Rymarenko said. “SnackTV specializes in customers who have no means to create their own videos or license content from the big providers. That includes small, mid-sized and ‘long tail’ parts of the German Internet. The Video Cloud player makes our content look and feel like it belongs on our customers’ sites.”
From February to March 2011, SnackTV’s customers saw a 442 percent increase in the number of unique visitors to their sites, as customer audiences flocked to view video content using the Video Cloud embedded player and SnackTV’s proprietary semantic video delivery technology.
